We Love What We Do.

We Solve Problems that Transform Businesses.

Brand Llama is a modern boutique agency located in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia. We help healthcare, financial services, manufacturing and small and midsize businesses grow by defining their brand and generating qualified leads through a seamless integration of design, content, technology and marketing strategy.

What makes Brand Llama unique is our team. We have no junior staff learning on the job. Every person that works at Brand Llama has years of expertise in his or her field and in the verticals we serve. This allows us to provide our customers with unique insights that help them increase the return on their marketing investment.

Sagan Medvec is the cofounder of Brand Llama (formerly Small Business Design Center (SBDC)), and is the creative director of the company. Sagan helped start SBDC because of his passion to help small businesses. Providing meaningful branding, marketing and interactive services and solutions for small businesses was the mission of the company. As SBDC grew through the years, however, the focus evolved. The company no longer just helped small businesses to grow; they had a number of midsize and large businesses on their client list. And they were doing much more than design. Sagan realized that the only thing still applicable about the SBDC name was center, which he decided was kind of a problem. From that realization, Sagan decided to create Brand Llama—all of the great services and service that SBDC offered with new additions requested by many customers. These changes positioned Brand Llama to become a full-service agency focused on helping our customers find customers, build trust and increase sales.

Before starting Brand Llama, Sagan Medvec was the director of design for Electronic Ink. His responsibilities included contributing to all phases of their evidence-based, user-centered design process including requirements gathering, design concept development, workflow analysis and design, site structure, information architecture, interaction and aesthetic design development. Sagan designed projects for the Philadelphia Orchestra, Sun Life Financial, the Please Touch Museum and Penske Trucking.

Prior to Electronic Ink, Sagan worked as the creative interactive lead for Finch Brands, where his work included requirements gathering, design concept development, information architecture, interaction and aesthetic design development. His clients included: Everlast Boxing, GSI Commerce, Tele Atlas, Lansinoh and Joseph Abboud Apparel.

Sagan was both an art director and small projects team manager for GSI Commerce, directing projects for the NFL, Nickelodeon, and NASCAR. Sagan was also an art director for Refinery, Inc. (now G2 Interactive), guiding projects for Merck Pharmaceuticals, Merck Vaccines and Campbell’s Soup Company. At Thomas Advertising, Sagan provided creative leadership on interactive projects and advertising campaigns for companies including GMAC Mortgage and MAB Paints. With art270, Sagan cut his chops on interactive, branding and signage projects for the likes of ITT Industries, Capital Health Systems and dozens of small businesses.

Sagan is a graduate of Tyler School of Art of Temple University where earned a Bachelor of Fine Art in Graphic and Interactive Design.

Nicole has developed a strong presence in the Philadelphia design community by helping numerous small and now not-so-small businesses create and refine their visual identities. Prior to joining Brand Llama she headed Brindle Boys Design where she managed the design projects for many of her clients that relied on her for nearly a decade. She enjoys developing relationships with small business owners and helping their businesses evolve and grow.

Her experience includes the development of numerous types of marketing & branding campaigns including wraps for vehicle fleets, store fronts and retail displays. She has created award-winning package designs as well as more conventional designs for print and web. As a member of the Sustainable Business Network she has provided solutions for companies that want designs that take advantage of the most sustainable resources available.

Nicole’s clients have included many niche industries across the Philadelphia area. They have come to rely on her sophisticated & innovative design style so much that they have spread her name across their industries and the country to businesses in areas such as San Francisco. By listening to their needs, providing creative solutions, fast turnaround and meticulous attention to detail she has been credited with helping set businesses such as Earth Body Advanced Therapies apart from their competition in the Bay Area. Publishers such as Gansevoort Target Media have trusted Nicole to design and produce multipage newspaper inserts that have been in the hands of thousands of commuters in the largest U.S. cities.

Nicole spent several years creating targeted web and print campaigns at Review Publishing. She collaborated with the editorial department to create memorable cover designs and page layouts under tight deadlines. While there she redesigned one of the company’s most popular websites as well as managed, updated and maintained several of the companies other high-traffic sites. Nicole developed citywide print and web-based campaigns for the company’s nationally sponsored events and niche publications. She designed weekly enewsletters, blogs and marketing email blasts for the company’s various publications.

Brand Llama has provided Nicole the perfect opportunity to join a team of other designers and developers that are focused on meeting the unique needs and often restrictions that small businesses have. She is always excited to find new ways to help businesses distinguish themselves in the community and to help them exceed their goals.

A graduate with honors from the Hartford Art School, she was the first ever to receive both William Wondriska Graphic Design Awards for Best Senior Portfolio and Best Senior Project.

Jen Smith has spent her almost 20-year career helping marketing teams break down silos and show results to executive leadership. Jen is a firm believer that marketing can prove that its a revenue generator, rather than a cost center to a company.

Prior to joining Brand Llama, Jen led marketing, digital, brand and creative teams at SunGard, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, USI Affinity Insurance, Sapient and Corporate Visions. While at these organizations she had a track record of lifting conversions, driving targeted leads and measuring results. Jen created a brand with a valuation of $1 billion, lifted conversions on an overhauled website 15% and doubled the number of sales-qualified leads year over year at various organizations. Jen believes that breaking down marketing silos and aligning efforts throughout the pipeline (with executives, sales and customer experience teams) leads to high-performing, successful marketing teams.

Jen graduated magna cum laude from Temple University’s School of Communications and Theater. She lives in Bucks County with her husband Jeff and her three dogs Jax, Gracie and Paisley. In her spare time, Jen fosters dogs, reads and travels. Her goal is to go somewhere new every year.
